The Keel Laying ceremony for the 12,000 bbl double hull tanker, which Herma Shipping and Transport Corporation (HSTC) commissioned Herma Shipyard Inc. (HSI) to build, was held last August 8, 2008 at the Herma Industrial Complex in Mariveles, Bataan. During the ceremony, Herma Group Chairman and CEO Herminio S. Esguerra announced that the tanker will be named “M/T Masinop”. “Masinop” is a Filipino value which means being economical in the use of resources and Mr. Esguerra emphasized the importance of being “masinop” in the construction of the new tanker. The event was also graced by representatives from Chevron Philippines Inc. led by Mr. Hassaan Vahidy, Supply Optimization Manager. During his speech, Mr. Vahidy talked about the long standing partnership between Chevron and HSTC.  The M/T Masinop is slated to be chartered by Chevron Philippines in the 1st quarter of 2009.
