Last June 22, 2007, representatives from Chevron led by Capt. Vijay K. Saul, Regional Marine Superintendent, visited Herma Shipyard together with representatives from Herma Shipping and Transport Corporation led by Mr. Enrico C. Cavestany, President. The visit was part of the evaluation process of Chevron of the bids submitted by HSTC to provide Chevron with new double hull vessels to serve their hauling requirements.
The Chevron and HSTC team arrived at the Herma Shipyard in the morning and were welcomed by the Herma Shipyard team led by Mr. George L. Cottrell, President. The guests were ushered to the new Production Office which was very impressive. Mr. George L. Cottrell, President, Mr. Tito Peralta, Engineering Manager, and Mr. Mike Veria, Shipbuilding Consultant then made a presentation regarding the Shipyard's capabilities and aptly answered all questions raised by the Chevron team.
After the orientation, the guests were brought to the slipway where the 22 MB was being erected. Everyone was amazed at what they saw and Mr. George Cottrell, Mr. Tito Peralta and Mr. Mike Veria proudly explained the details of the construction. The group then proceeded to the machine shop where the steel plates were being prepared and precisely cut according to computer generated drawing plans.
With all the energy consumed during the morning's activities, the group proceeded to have lunch at the Ihaw-ihaw restaurant where a sumptuous lunch was served. After recharging over lunch, the guests proceeded to the Admin building where they were toured around the Engineering Department. During this time, Mr. Tito Peralta explained and demonstrated the Naval Design Software being used by the shipyard in the shipbuilding process.
At the conclusion of the tour, the Chevron and HSTC team thanked the HSI team and headed back to Manila at around 1:30 pm. The day was truly a fruitful one as the Herma Shipyard was able to showcase their capabilities to build ships and we all look forward to more ships being built at the shipyard.
