HSTC Uses PurpleFinder DSAS
Date Posted: 2006-04-06
HSTC began installing the PurpleFinder DSAS Ship Security Alert System on its vessels last August. The DSAS is a complete solution in linking the shipboard security alert equipment to shore-based operations. Physically, the DSAS ship security alert system is a self-contained unit consisting of a compact integrated Inmarsat/GPS transceiver, power management unit and back-up batteries. The DSAS unit has no external antenna and does not resemble typical Satcom equipment. Therefore, with such a degree of concealment, the DSAS is likely to escape hijacker/terrorist attention and therefore make it possible for HSTC vessel officers to alert shore-based operations about hijacking incidents, if any. The DSAS is fully compliant with SOLAS XI-2/6 and associated performance standard MSC.147(77) requiring ships to be provided with a ship security alert system. Furthermore, the solution is IACS certified, and also directly accepted by many Flag Administrations (and indirectly when Administrations have contracted to IACS / Class). Back to Archive
